Surprisingly, Nathan and Rebecca’s paths briefly crossed on an August Long Weekend at a campout just outside of Rocky Mountain House, AB in 2013. Both were seeing other people at the time, so they went their separate ways as they started University in Lethbridge and Winnipeg.

Fast forward to 2019, and by some luck they were both in Master Programs at UBC in Vancouver. Through a mutual friend, although not directly, they met on Bumble with a simple message from Becca responding to one of Nathan’s photo’s saying, “Is that Jayne Owchar?!”

They met up for coffee at a local Vancouver cafe on an abnormally sunny day in January and their paths were intertwined from then on. Since then, Rebecca and Nathan’s lives have consisted many adventures along the West Coast, moving in together right before the pandemic, getting a puppy (equal parts loveable and insane), moving provinces from BC to Alberta, settling into their first home, and countless times where Nathan has asked for his in-house physio to help out, to which she has responded with “I’m off the clock.”

It seems fitting that Nathan had to change his proposal plan several times due to Rebecca’s stubbornness and Rebecca said “yes” at an off-leash dog park along the coast of Vancouver Island before Christmas in 2023.
